形态描述：柔弱多年生直立草本，高15-30 (40) 厘米；根茎细长，四棱形，具2-6节，节间长0.5-2厘米，节上生不定根。主根常为2枝并列，稍肉质，近纺锤形，长3-5厘米，径2-3毫米，棕褐色。茎方形，有沟，近光滑或微被疏柔毛。叶近基生，成假莲座状，3-6对叶生缩短节上，或在茎下部松散排列；叶片倒卵状披针形，连柄长3-8厘米，2-4回羽状中裂，中央裂片较大，两侧裂片渐小，边缘有不整齐浅裂或锯齿，基部渐狭成长1-3厘米的柄；上面深绿色，被稀疏白色渐脱毛，下面苍绿色，沿脉上具疏柔毛；茎上部叶渐小，浅裂，无柄。花在茎顶端成疏松窄长圆形聚伞圆锥花序；各分枝处有苞片1对，长2-4毫米，具中脉1条，边缘疏生柔毛。花具短梗，果时长达1毫米；小总苞4裂，裂片披针形，长1.5-2毫米，外面密被紫色腺毛；萼筒壶状，长约1.5毫米，具8条肋棱，顶端收缩成8个微小的牙齿状或锯齿状的檐部；花冠白色或粉红色，长3-4 (5) 毫米，短漏斗状，5裂，裂片顶端钝，近辐射对称；雄蕊4，略外伸，花药内向，白色，花丝直立，长5毫米，着生于花冠近口部；花柱略长于雄蕊，长2毫米，直伸，子房包于囊状小总苞内（囊苞）。瘦果包于囊苞中；果时囊苞长3-4毫米，外被腺毛，4裂，裂片顶端长渐尖，多曲钩。花果期7-10月。
